Merry Christmas everyone!

Hi all,

We're about to set off for Scotland, where we will be spending Christmas, so just in case I have trouble accessing da internetz while I'm there, I wanted to wish you all a very merry Christmas, or whatever else you are celebrating.
Hope you're all spoilt rotten!

I'll leave you with a wee Christmas house I altered for Crafters' Palette

See you all next year!

Winter Wonderland - Crafters' Palette DT

Hi all.

Still up to my ears in wallpaper, paint and lino over here, but son's bedroom is coming together finally. I am looking forward to when everything is back in his room, and I can go from one room to another in this house without having to climb over furniture and toys!

I've been so pre-occupied, I completely forgot to let you all know about the Winter Wonderland tag I made for Crafters' Palette!

There's more info over on the blog if you fancy taking a peek!

Must dash, walls are ready for the next coat of paint!

Have a fantastic evening!

Christmas Presents - Sweet Stampin' DT

I don't know about you guys, but I just can't seem to keep up at the moment! So very behind with everything, and we're sorting out son's bedroom (it's only sever years overdue! lol), so no rest for the wicked at all...

There is however, a fun new challenge over at Sweet Stampin'. If, like me, you're still nowhere near ready with your Christmas cards yet, why not use this as an excuse to play along with our Christmas Presents theme this week?

I used one of my favourite LOTV Christmas stamps, and made another card in the "set"

Papers are Dovecraft again, and I even managed to dig out my Stickles for her hat and scarf. The sentiment is also LOTV.

Hope you're all well,

Have a great weekend!

Sparkle and shine - Sweet Stampin' DT

Morning all,

New challenge time and Sweet Stampin', and it's an extra special one, because it also happens to be our 6th birthday! So I hope you'll pop by and help us celebrate.
The theme this week is sparkle and shine, which I think is a great one for just about any occasion, but especially for Christmas!

So I made another card in the "set" that I'm making for my family. Each one has a different LOTV image and design, but uses the same papers (from last year's Dovecraft pack), which makes them all look like they belong together.

This is what I made for this week:

As always, the sparkly, shiny part of the card didn't like to be photographed, but if you look really carefully, you'll see the Tim Holtz die-cut tree and star are cut from green and gold mirri card respectively.
I also added glossy accents to the spoon and the gold dishes in the picture, which adds a little more shine.

So that's me, but please do go see what my fellow sweeties have been up to, and come and join us for this birthday challenge week. There's extra prizes up for grabs for random entries!

Have a fantabulous weekend!

Gatefold album for Crafters' palette DT

Goooood morning folks!

Just a quick one from me this morning, as I have to run off to work, but I have a gatefold mini album to share that I did for Crafters' Palette.

I really loved making this!

If you want to take a peek inside, please do pop over to the blog.

Got to dash, but I will make time for blog visits tomorrow.

Have a fabulous one!

Wrap up warm - Sweet Stampin' DT

Hello there folks,

First of all, apologies for my absence these past couple of weeks. A hectic schedule combined with lack of sleep and the lurgy have left me anywhere but in a bloggy kind of headspace. I have a backlog of stuff to blog, but for now, I shall share this week's Sweet Stampin' theme, which is - aptly - wrap up warm.

I went with a super sweet LOTV stamp for this, and made a card for my - still pathetically tiny - pile of Christmas cards...

I dug out last year's favourite Christmas papers too (from Dovecraft). I suspect I'll be using a load more of them over the next few weeks! And the sentiment is LOTV as well.

That's it from me for now, but the rest of the Sweeties have made some gorgeous cards for you, so I urge you to take a peek.

Hope to come visit all your gorgeous blogs soon!

Have a fantastically awesomesauce weekend!

November challenge - Rhedd's Creative Spirit

Goooooood morning bloggaroos!

Hope those of you celebrating enjoyed Halloween last night. We had a few trick-or-treaters 'round, but nowhere near as many as the past couple of years...

Anyways, on to this month's challenge at Rhedd's Creative Spirit! you know the drill by now, anything altered art goes. I took a set of wooden ATCs in a frame from Fernli Designs, and a DCWV paper pad, and this was the result:

The dashing gentleman in the frame? My grandfather. A wonderful man, and one of my favourite people in the world. I was originally going to use a random vintage image, but as I'd already decided I'd be keeping this myself, I figured "why not?" and made it that bit more personal by digging out an old photo.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but there's a lot of detailing with a gold leaf pen (a Rustoleum one, which really does look like gold!), such as on the rose

The embellishments are from pretty much everywhere, but the majority are either Fernli or Tim Holtz.

The S and K charms are my kids' initials, to further personalise it a little.

And there you have it.

I hope you enjoyed my little bit of inspiration this morning. I am rather proud of it, and it'll be on display just as soon as I can get my hubby to help me put it up (as I can't reach, lol).

Hope you're having a fantabulous weekend!

Dies and/or punches - Sweet Stampin' DT

Hi all, happy haunting today!

A new challenge is happening at Sweet Stampin', and I suspect it'll be a popular one. We're looking for creations featuring dies and/or punches.

I decided to use a shaped base for mine, then want with a large scallop die and some snowflake dies...

For some reason, I can't seem to get blues and purples to photograph properly... Once my daughter starts her photography A level, I shall get her to assist, methinks, lol.

The image is an Aurora Wings digi, and the papers are Maja design. I made this one for my parents, as my mum really doesn't like green, so the shades of blue are perfect, as that's her favourite colour!

Hope those of you going out trick-or-treating tonight have a spooktacular time (mine are a bit too old now, so they'll be sitting by the door with the sweets instead... hope there will be some left for the little ones, lol!

More texture stamps - Crafters' palette DT

Morning folks,

I had a wonderful time with my parents and my twin nieces, who they'd brought along. Really looking forward to going up and seeing them at Christmas!

Now, I'd been having so much fun playing with the Kaisercraft texture stamps for Crafters' palette, that I played about with a second technique too. this time, I did some embossing.

If you'd like to see how I made this, please pop over to the blog.

Hope you're all having a fabulous weekend!

Texture stamps - Crafters' Palette DT

Morning all,

Ok, first of all... You all fail at guessing football teams (or in the case of my American friends, soccer). :-P
My wee brother lives up north in Scotland. Aberdeen to be precise. And yes, he supports the Dons. (That's Aberdeen FC to the layman, lol)
Of course, you can all be forgiven as red is easily the most common team colour out there it seems, but that's not going to stop me from eating the virtual cookie all by myself! *nom!*
My personal favourite team actually has one of the most recognisable strips out there, so keep an eye open for that appearing on a card one day soon...

Now, onto the business of the day:

The product of the month over at Crafters' Palette is Kaisercraft texture stamps. I decorated a wooden heart using one of them.

If you'd like more details, why not pop over to the blog?

I hope you'll all have a lovely day. My parents may be popping in today, as they're on holiday in Wales, so within day-trip distance for once. As we only see them a couple of times a year, this is cause for much jubilation from the kids and myself (hubby is working late, so it's not making any difference to him, lol), although also cause for a panicked "Why has my self-cleaning oven not cleaned itself" moment.

Until tomorrow!

Antiques Roadshow - Sweet Stampin' DT

Good morning bloggaroos!

Saturday yet again. Which means tomorrow is Sunday. I am determined to get a lie-in for once. Yes. Must locate duct tape for kids... ;-)
Saturday also means a new challenge at Sweet Stampin', of course. And this week's theme is antiques Roadshow.  So, this theme means I shall show off my husband dig out an old stamp for your inspiration.

Now, as I've only just been stamping for 2 years now, my idea of "old" is probably a little different from some of you who have been at it a wee bit longer! But as LOTV were responsible for my first (and second, third, fiftieth, etc.) stamp, I figured that was the way to go.

And for good measure I included papers from my first ever paper pad too! (Docrafts "Wellington" papers)

This card made its way north for my baby brother's birthday. Can any of you guess what football team he supports? None of my fellow Sweeties managed to guess, so there's still a virtual cookie in it for whomever gets it right, lol.

Speaking of the Sweeties... Don't forget to go take a peek at all the gorgeous old stamps they've dug up for this challenge!

Have an awesomesauce weekend!

Mixed media card - Crafters' Palette DT

Hi all,

I made a mixed media card following this month's page map over at Crafters' Palette.

This was sooooooo much fun to do!

There's a step-by-step tutorial over on the Crafters' Palette blog, along with products used, etc, if anyone is curious how I made it.

Hope you're all having a fabulous weekend!

CAS birthday card

Hi all,

I made a card recently for a male friend who is fond of the minimalist look... I have to admit that although I've been making quite a few CAS cards recently, I still really struggle. It's so hard to resist the urge to throw embellishments at it! lol.

Anyways, this just uses some alphabet dies, a stamp, bakers' twine and a charm.

And that's about as CAS as I get! (let's face it, anything less and I'd be sending a blank piece of card in the post!)

Hope you're all having a lovely day!

Wheels - Sweet Stampin' DT

Good morning ladies and germs!

It's another Saturday (already!) which of course means another challenge over at Sweet Stampin'. And this week? this week we're wanting to see your wheels!

I had a wee dig through my stash, and found a rather pretty bicycle stamp (a magazine freebie), which I used to make a pretty, girlie, shabby chic affair, because it'd been far too long since I last made one of those.

This is what I ended up with:

And now I'm out of bark hearts yet again! That's 4 bags now. maybe I should just order a dozen bags and have done with it, lol. I can't help it though, they're so pretty and go so very well with the shabby chic look!

So there be my wheels. Both of 'em! Now I strongly suggest you go take a peek at what the rest of the Sweeties have come up with. I'm actually very impressed. Without discussing it beforehand, almost all of us used a different thing with wheels on. Go us!  (although I'm hoping some clever person will enter a card with Wagon Wheels on... The biscuit, that is! lol)

Have an awesomesauce weekend everyone!

October Challenge at Rhedd's Creative Spirit

Good morning folks!

It's official. This year is going way too fast! Hate to break it to you all, but it's the 1st of October already...

On the upside, it means a new month and a new opportunity to come and play at Rhedd's Creative Spirit. Just come on by with any of your altered art or mixed media. We'd be so happy to see it!

Some of you may remember the pen pot I altered for my hubby back in February. The result of this was that I was rather jealous of his fabulous pen pot, while I still had one sitting on my desk that I never actually liked to begin with! So for this month's challenge, I finally got around to making one for myself.

I grabbed a blank from the MDF man, and added my favourite papers, some inksplat stamping (because let's face it, *everything* I own is covered in inksplats already anyways...) and lots of other goodies.
This is what it eventually turned out like:

The eagle-eyed amongst you may spot portions of the leaf stamp I used for my sewing box recently on here as well... I really, really love that stamp! lol. What I did intend to do, was fill the frame with either Glossy- or Crackle accents, but unfortunately I've run out of both! (will be remedied at the Harrogate fair tomorrow, I hope...) So I may yet get 'round to doing so at a later point.

Hope you will all come join in the fun (because seriously, altered art is fun. It really, really is!), and come and see what the rest of our fabulous design team have made for your inspiration this month.

Have an awesomesauce day!

Card for hubby and some fab news!

Morning all,

Before I get to my card, I have some exciting news to share... I have been offered a place on the brand new Crafters' Palette design team! I'm really excited to be a part of this fab team, and there's already a couple of gorgeous projects up on the blog (that and a bio with my mug... sorry about that! ;-) )

Now then, onto card for the day.

It was hubs and mine anniversary recently, and I naturally made him a card. (I kid you not, this is our entire celebration. I make him a card, he says "thank you, happy anniversary" and continues reading the paper, lol!)

I went the grungy route for this one, as hubby isn't fond of cute and pretty... Shock! hehe...

Lots of Distress inks, lots of stencils, stamps and some spritzing with a picket fence distress marker. Twine and a rather obvious sentiment for the occasion finish it off.

I also left the inside black, while normally if I'm using a non-wite base I will decorate the inside and have a panel to write on. Instead I wrote my message in white, which I think worked well on this occasion.

Hope you're all having a lovely week!

September TH tag

Hi all,

First of all, for anyone who has come to follow me recently: Yes, I do make cards! I just seem to be posting mostly tags and other non-card items this month, lol.

I thought I'd pop in and share my September Tim Tag, seeing as how I forgot to post them the last couple of months... They're often done within the first couple of days of the month, and then they sit there waiting for a break in the never-ending clouds so there's some light to photograph them by. Eventually I give up waiting for something that's never going to happen, and make do with poor lighting instead, lol.

Anyways, here 'tis:

Just in case you were wondering, this tag is actually purples with a hint of Broken China down one side. There's a touch of Scattered Straw too. (I went for softer colours than Tim, even if they aren't actually as washed-out as they seem in the photo)
The butterflies have been stamped a second time onto acetate and layered.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Autumn again

Hi all,

Thought I'd swing by and drop off the tag I made for our your favourite season challenge at the Crafting Cafe this month.

I chose autumn for mine, not because it's actually my favourite (that would be summer, though I've been having trouble remembering what one of those is like since I moved to Leeds), but because it's my favourite "crafting" season. I just adore the warm colours and of course the browns. I do love browns! lol.

Anyways, this is what I came up with:

It's almost all Tim Holtz again, lol. DI background, blueprint stamps (these leaves look so awesome covered in Crackle paint, I think) and a TH word band. Add a little twine and some stencilling, and done!

One thing I don't like much about actual autumn however, is the incessant rain (ok, not much different from any other season there!). As I don't drive, I pretty much end up getting soaked any time I set foot outside the house, brolly or no. But that's life in Britain really, and if we didn't have the weather to talk about, whatever would we do?

Hope you all have a great (and dry!) day!

Emboss it - Sweet Stampin' DT

Good morning all!

Another Saturday, another challenge over at Sweet Stampin'. And this week our theme is Emboss it.

You can heat emboss, or dry emboss, it's up to you. I chose to heat emboss, and my Vintage Photo Distress embossing powder had just arrived and was sitting on my desk begging to be used.
So I inked up a background, and heat embossed a LOTV steampunk background stamp I've had since I started stamping and never gotten 'round to using. (Hey look, more NBUS!)
I added a few more TH goodies, et voila:

It's a little hard to tell from the photo, but the embossed background looks really rusty in person. I loooove the effect!

Now my fellow Sweeties have made some fabulous cards, so I hope you'll go and take a peek, and maybe come and join us with an embossed project yourself? Just don't forget to stamp!

Have a fantastic weekend!

Mixing it up!

Hi all,

Some of you may have noticed that I don't enter challenges very often any more. In fact, I think there may have been 2 or maybe 3 projects I have entered for something so far this year!
My reasons for that are simple. I don't like entering a challenge unless I have made something specifically for it. I don't have the patience to try and fit my already completed projects to as many different challenges as I can find after the fact, so simply don't bother. I know many people do, and that's fine, but it doesn't work for me.

Having said that, sometimes I am inspired by a challenge, and want to make something. And other times, while I'm thinking of what to make, I come across another challenge that inspires, and the ideas start to mingle.

This is what happened to me the other day. I realised that it was once again time for Darnell's NBUS challenge, and it being my favourite challenge in Blogland, I really wanted to play along. So I ruminated on what Never-Before-Used-Schtuff I was going to finally get around to using. While I was doing so, I followed a link posted by a friend, to find the latest challenge over at Rubber Dance Art Stamps. I was immediately drawn by the gorgeous February colours, so threw them into the mix. As the colours made me think of Ground Espresso, Aged Mahogany and Broken China Distress inks, I made the link to tags, and then I had my NBUS! You see, I had a pack of size 10 tags sitting in my Tim Holtz box that I'd never managed to get around to using - normally preferring the size 8's. Perfect.

Tag decided upon, I figured a quick trip to Tag Along was required for more inspiration, and their Think Outside the Tag challenge sounded like a lot of fun, so off that went into the creative stew in my head (less tasty than it sounds, lol)

And finally? I promised Di that I'd be coming to play at the Playground again, so snippets of some sort were going to be needed!

WOW! I didn't actually intend to write this much, but I thought I'd include my haphazard thought-process here for a giggle. Well done if you haven't fallen asleep yet!

On to my tag:

Now, I can very definitely tell you why said size 10 tags were NBUS... They're HUGE! It didn't seem like it at first, but once I started working on it, I realised I didn't have any stamps big enough, lol. So a combination of TH stamps came to the rescue.
My snippets are the two small pieces of Hessian/burlap. All that was left of my 1m square... I really hope the habby gets it back in stock, as I do so love working with it.

The acorn got a treatment of both glossy accents and sparkly spray ink, and the leaves were covered with Crackle paint (also all gone now!)

to finish it off, I added some ink-stained ribbon and twine, a couple of mini pine cones, and some of TH's remnant rubs and small talk, edged with my Sakura Clear star pen.

And now I think I have waffled at you all long enough!

Have a fantastic day!

Mid-month tutorial for Rhedd's Creative Spirit

Howdy boys and girls,

It's my turn for the Mid-month tutorial over at Rhedd's Creative Spirit, and I turned a mdf box into this sewing themed one:

If you fancy taking a peek, my tutorial is up on the blog!

Hope you're all feeling less "bleugh" than I have been this past week. There appears to be allsorts going round, and they're all nice enough to share with me, lol.
But at least the kids are back at school, so there's occasional peace and quiet (when I manage to kick hubby out too! Hehe...)

Have a fabulous day all!

Let's get musical - Sweet Stampin' DT

Happy Saturday folks!

And you know what Saturday means, right? Yep, a new challenge at Sweet Stampin'! And the theme this week is Let's get musical. Love it!

So, I dug through my stash and found a stamp that I'd bought with a friend's birthday in mind. It just so happens her birthday and this challenge coincided, which meant it was the perfect match. She likes bright colours, so that decided the direction I wanted to take the card in (otherwise it would likely have ended up being sheet music paper and a vintage feel, lol)

I printed the sentiment onto a piece of coordinating paper, and added some star gems to her top (there was a star there already as part of the stamp. I thought the gem made it pop a bit more.) and the corner of the card. I finished it all off with a couple of strips of piano key washi tape.

And there she is. I urge you to go take a peek at the lovely makes my fellow Sweeties have prepared for you, and then why not play along?

Hope you'll all have a fantabulous weekend!

September project for Rhedd's Creative Spirit

Gooood morning bloggaroos, and welcome to September! (Really?! Where is the year going? Next people will start to throw the dreaded "C" word around!)

The end of the summer holidays are in sight! Our lot go back to school on Monday, and I have to say, I'm really looking forward to having a little time to myself! Of course, this won't happen until Wednesday, what with work and husbands and all that, but still, counting the hours! lol.

On to my September project for Rhedd's Creative Spirit.

As I have been taking on more at work, and seem to have less and less time to get everything done these days, I decided to try and make my life a little easier. So I took a plain black A5 ring binder, and made a planner!

I started by covering the binder with burlap - my favourite material. next, I took a piece of thick card (the backing card from my pack of TH burlap panels, in fact. Waste not, want not!) and put together a cover panel.
I started with using some embossing paste through a TH stencil and then began layering pictures and ephemera. a metal word band tied on with twine, and some letters to spell out "Planner" also got added, and I used my gold leafing pen (Rust-oleum. AWESOME pens. They actually make things look like gold, unlike most other things) and went around the edges, and finally added a little faux stitching here and there.

And of course I added some small talk phrases, and finally attached a keyhole/lock embellishment to the side.

That was the outside done.

To cover up the folded over pieces of burlap on the inside, I cut some pieces of TH paper to cover the inside covers. (that's a lot of "cover" for one sentence, lol)

Finally, I used some thick card and collaged some scraps of TH paper onto it, to make a cover page for the planner. The great thing about using a ring binder, is that next year I can simply remove the 2015 pages, and add new ones.

And finally, the pages themselves look like this:

They were printables I found online, which mostly suited my purposes. The other side of the sheets was left blank on purpose, so I could do some journalling too if I wanted to.

That was my project this month, but I hope you'll come play too! The theme, as always is Anything Altered Art Goes.

And I'll be back mid-month to show off another little project, along with a tutorial, so see you then!

Have an awesomesauce (that's in the Oxford dictionary now, you know!!) day!

Cherub tag

Hi all,

So yesterday, when I really should have been getting on with rather pressing projects due in a few days, I instead ended up making a cherub tag, after being inspired by Sandie's guest tag over at Tagalong.

I knew I still had a Prima cherub somewhere in my stash, so after I located it, out came the Distress Paints... (In tattered rose, worn lipstick, dried marigold and white, in case anyone was wondering) I marbled them onto a manilla tag, and once it was dry, had some fun with texture paste and stencils, before adding the cherub on top of some cheesecloth.
Some lace, pins, a charm and TH sentiment stickers finished it off.

When everything was done, I misted the tag with my cosmic shimmer spray, to add a lovely sparkle...
Which of course is impossible to capture accurately.

I did alter the charm a little before adding it. It was a plain silver colour, which would not do, so added black ink, white distress paint and a touch of shimmer and spun sugar distress ink..

And there it is. I'm off to play along at Tagalong, and then I guess I'd better get back to work! lol.

Hope you're all having an awesome weekend!

Spots or stripes or both - Sweet Stampin' DT

Morning folks!

Well, there was another episode in the hiatus hernia saga today. Doc told me they won't operate, as it's not life threatening, and instead they'll just treat the symptoms for the rest of my life.
I don't think so!! Aside from the fact that I don't want heartburn and medication for the rest of my life (I'm still the right side of 40, for goodness' sake!), but the hernia is interfering with my ability to sing, and that I CAN'T live with!
So I made an appointment with another doctor, and will try again next week. I fully intend to keep making appointments and making a nuisance of myself until they do something to sort it! lol.

Anyways, there are more fun things to be talking about. Like this week's challenge at Sweet Stampin'. And the theme this week is Spots or Stripes or both.

Easy peasy. I'm sure you're all as bad as me and have stacks of spotty stripy things lying around, no? (Surely I'm not the only compulsive paper hoarder? hehe...)

I opted for both, and put together a card for a friend's birthday. She likes red, so that was my starting point, and I chose a bluey/teal to go with it for contrast.

I do love these stamps. And of course they just beg to be paper-pieced!

Originally this card did not have corners, but before I managed to photograph, there was a slight mishap involving Distress blending tools, lol.

I hope you'll find the time to play along with us this week!

Have a fantabulous weekend!

CANDY WINNER!

Morning all,

It's time to announce the winner of my latest candy, and I enlisted the help of Mr. Random.org for this one (my son being faaaaar too busy on his computer to come and help out this time, lol).

And Mr. Random chose:

Which is Tracey!  Drop me an email, and I'll get your goodies posted off to you.

I am already planning the next candy, so keep your eyes peeled!

Now, I must go get ready, as my darling son and I are off for some afternoon tea shortly (providing I can get him away from that computer!).

Have a fantastic day all!

Candy!

Hi all,

As my blog has just turned 2 years old (on the 10th), and by way of apology for my frequent absences at the moment, I thought I would host a wee candy for you all.
I put together a few colouring mediums, some TH goodies and grabbed a gift voucher for Art From The Heart (my current favourite shop, who deliver internationally at cost!) and put it all together ready to send to one of you!

The rules are simple: Be a follower (old or new), and drop your name with the little blue frog below. I would love a spot in your sidebar if you can manage it, and candy only blogs are NOT considered. Simples, no?
If you feel like it, clue me in in the comments on what your favourite colouring medium is. (Optional!) I have always loved my Promarkers, personally, but when it comes to making backgrounds, you can't beat distress inks!

The candy will run for a few weeks, as I have a busy spell coming up at the end of the month, so I'll draw afterwards.

Right then, that's enough waffle from me. Have a fantastic day!

Anything but a birthday - Sweet Stampin' DT

Good morning everyone!

First of all, there's still a day or so left to enter my candy if you haven't done so yet. See the sticky post at the top of my blog.

So, I was away at Standon Calling festival last weekend, dressing up as a cowgirl, teaching folks to sing "I Shot the Sheriff" and entertaining lots of little deputies, cowboys and Indians with wild west related crafts. Luckily the weather was absolutely glorious, so no mud to contend with!
I did over-do it a bit, so have spent most of this week in bed, but all in all, I'd say it was a success :-)

Now then, on to this week's challenge over at Sweet Stampin'. The theme is a very easy Anything but a Birthday so there's no excuse not to join in.

I took the opportunity to have a play with one of the fab Tim Holtz burlap panels that I'd picked up a little while ago. LOVE them. Because they are wood underneath the burlap, there's no distortion that you might sometimes get when using a canvas.

Everything on this panel, besides the twine, is TH. Paper, tissue tape, ephemera, sentiment, metal bits and of course stamp, markers and inks. There's also some Distress paint on the sides of the panel to add some interest.

Soooooo much fun to make, and definitely one I'm keeping for myself!

Hope to see some of you enter the challenge this week, and I hope to come visit your lovely blogs soon too.

Have a fantabulous weekend!
